But as always, I just imagined all the beautiful possibilities and the brighter experiences waiting for us in our destination.Īs for the boat ride, it was pretty short and smooth. As a matter of fact, I thought Canigao was one of those overrated island destinations, dotted with selfie junkies. With so my tourists joining us on our boat ride, I was at first rather skeptical about this place. From there, we bought tickets for the entrance and boat ride heading to the island. It was, after all, an impromptu trip, and I’ve really never heard much of the island, prior to our visit.Īfter more than 30 minutes of riding a motorbike, we finally arrived at the pier going to the island of Canigao at 10:00 am. But since we were a bit late on our schedule, I didn’t get a chance to take pictures of Leyte’s mesmerizing highway scenery.Īs I was riding on Noel’s motorbike, I couldn’t help, but wonder what Canigao Island looks like. Along the way on the highway, I saw some verdant landscapes and eye-catching rice paddies that gave me an urge to snap a ton of photographs. Our weekend trip to Canigao Island kicked off with a motorbike ride from their hometown, Manhilo in Maasin City. To make things even better, we were accompanied by their humorous cousin, Noel, who guided us to this sweet little tropical haven. Luckily for me, I was treated by my girlfriend, Rabbie, and her sister, Ruby, to a sweet tropical escape on Canigao Island last weekend. And yet, for all the fun and excitement I’ve had with my recent hikes, I was still yearning for a healthy dose of Vitamin Sea. From the unforgettable trek in Badian to my casual hikes in Buhisan, these recent outdoor trips have been nothing short of amazing and spectacular.

How to get there: From Tacloban, take a van or bus heading to Maasin and alight in Matalom town proper. It’s Easter Sunday and I have to go back to the mainland and head to my next destination. I felt tired after walking and just lie down on the sand watching the boats coming to and from the island. A pretty small island that you can roam around in less than 30 minutes. The cold sea breeze woke me up and the waves invited me for a morning walk around the island. I found one but changed my mind so I walked around and found a hut. After I finished 2 bottles of Red Horse beer, I searched for a place to pitch my tent. Got a company of kids who manage the store where I had my dinner of pork barbeque. I looked for a place to dine and found one.
The night has come and I was so tired but trying to keep myself alive. All of them will be spending a night together with their family and friends. As the sun sets, people are flocking at the island. Of course, I arrived there Black Saturday so I expected more people coming and I wasn’t wrong. What I liked in this island is the simplicity and less-crowded shores. Crystal clear water awaits for all who wants to relax from the busy life in mainland Leyte. It took 15 minutes to reach this white sand island from Matalom port. After hopping from Limasawa Island, I decided to jump into this tiny island located in the municipality of Matalom. A place where a tourist or traveler should spend a night. “It is not how much we have, how much we spend, but how much we enjoy, that makes happiness”
